G.M Makes Trades For Himself

Posted by SportzWeb Staff on March 15, 2013 at 5:20 PM Comments comments (0)

The Buffalo Bandits of the National Lacrosse League made a deal, just in time for the trade deadline. They acquired former Toronto Rock goaltender Steve Dietrich in exchange for a sixth-round pick. What's so special about that? Dietrich is Buffalo's general manager, and has been since July. He traded for himself.

Sounds Crazy, Right, well lets break it down for you. As it turns out, Steve "Chugger" Dietrich last appeared in six games for Toronto before retiring in 2009. Because of that, his rights still belong to Toronto—even after he took the Buffalo GM job.

So why go through all this? Up until Thursday, Buffalo only had only two goalies and Dietrich, 43 years old, could still suit up in an emergency.

NBA: Carmelo Anthony Out Indefintly

Posted by SportzWeb Staff on March 14, 2013 at 3:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Anthony Left early in the third quarter of the Knick Denver game Wednesday night. Melo will head back to New York to have his right knee drained and likely will miss the rest of the West Coast trip -- if not more. ... There is no timetable for his return but a medical expert said it could only be a week before he returns unless there is more to it. Nevertheless, fluid in the knee is a symptom of larger problems -- possibly cartilage damage or arthritis. Early in the fourth quarter, a loud, taunting chant of "Where is Melo?" rang out in the thin Denver air as the Nuggets (44-22) won their 10th straight game

Death Threats Cancel QB Vicks Book Tour

Posted by SportzWeb Staff on March 12, 2013 at 11:00 AM Comments comments (0)

Michael Vick's book-signing tour has been canceled because of threats against him for running a dogfighting ring.

The Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback was scheduled to sign copies of his autobiography "Finally Free," at Barnes & Noble stores in Atlanta, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The March 26 appearance set for Exton, Pa., was listed as canceled on the company's website.

A person with knowledge of the situation, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation, told The Associated Press the signings were scrapped because of threats against Vick and store employees. Vick served 18 months in federal prison for his role in running the dogfighting ring. According to court papers in the cases of Vick and his codefendants, Vick bankrolled the operation and joined others in killing dogs that didn't perform well.

NYJ Revis Leaving heading to Falcons / 49ers

Posted by SportzWeb Staff on March 7, 2013 at 7:20 AM Comments comments (0)

The New York Jets are determined to deal star cornerback Darrelle Revis, and the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers are interested in his services, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

“He's gone,” a source told Mehta on Tuesday. “This is happening. They're moving him. They can't keep him. They're rebuilding. They're starting fresh.”

The 49ers, according to Mehta, are hoping to get the deal done quickly. Otherwise, if the Jets wait until just before the April 25 NFL Draft, they'd have to pay Revis a $1 million roster bonus.

Of course, there is some risk involved, considering Revis is coming off knee surgery. But according to the report, some teams would be interested in giving up some draft choices for the four-time Pro Bowler and the 2009 AFC Defensive Player of the Year.

Although the Falcons are indicated as a possible destination in the paper's report, several -- including's Mike Freeman -- have stated that Atlanta is not serious about bringing in Revis, and that the Falcons' "interest" could be the Jets trying to force San Francisco's hand.
